PETALING JAYA: Umno Youth has called on the party’s members to move away from the ongoing political polemic among its leaders and instead focus on helping the people whose lives are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
This comes in the wake of certain leaders from the wing calling for Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to take a “break” from his duties.
Youth chief Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the pandemic had already affected the lives of the people; creating a political crisis would only exacerbate matters.
“In the midst of the pandemic crisis, a political polemic whether within or between parties is the last thing people want to see or get involved in,” he said in a Facebook post today.
Asyraf urged the party’s members to return to their original struggle to protect and fight for the people’s well-being.
He said the Umno leadership must focus on matters that were more important for the people’s welfare such as pushing for the moratorium extension, i-Sinar application, and other financial assistance during the movement control order (MCO).
Earlier this week, Pontian Umno Youth chief Mohd Helmi Buang had urged Zahid to resign, citing the need for new blood; Seremban Umno Youth chief Zool Amali Hussin concurred with him.
Umno Youth exco member Mustafa Shah Abdul Hamid said Umno should follow the example of other parties which have never asked their presidents to resign even when things had turned sour. - FMT
