IPOH: M. Sugu (pic) has pleaded guilty to a charge of possessing a sickle at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun in July last year.
Sugu – one half of the “Sugu Pavithra” Youtube cooking channel along with his 28-year-old wife S. Pavithra – was sentenced to a three-year good behaviour bond of RM8,000 by Sessions Court judge Norashima Khalid on Monday (Jan 11).
Lawyer Mohamad Hafiz Jalaludin, who represented the 29-year-old former estate worker, thanked the court for the decision.
"We are relieved that the court has agreed to sentence our client with such an order. We believe Sugu's wife will pay for the bond," he said when met outside the courtroom.
He added that Sugu will also have to pay an additional RM3,000 to bear the cost of the investigation into the case.
Sugu was charged with assaulting Pavithra with a mobile phone and a sickle at the parking lot of the hospital on July 21 last year.
He has since been given a discharge not amounting to an acquittal by the Sessions Court here over the assault charge.
In proceedings earlier, lawyer Muhammad Shahrul Nizam Mohd Radi, who also represented Sugu, pleaded to the court for a lighter sentence.
"Sugu has never been involved in any criminal cases. He was also one of the candidates to be named as Ipoh City Icon and is currently taking care of his two small sons," he said.
