PETALING JAYA: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has denied releasing water from the Cameron Highlands Dam in Pahang resulting in the recent flooding.

"TNB advises members of the public not to share posts on social media that have gone viral on the release of water from the Cameron Highlands Dam resulting in flooding

"The public is advised to verify the validity of social media posts before sharing them to avoid causing aggravation to the community," TNB said in a statement Wednesday (Jan 6).

The company noted that the water at the hydroelectric dam was below the overflow level and no water release was done as claimed in the social media post.

"Water levels at two other TNB dams, namely at Tasik Kenyir, Terengganu, and the Sungai Perak Dam, Perak, are also below the overflow level and no water release has been implemented," the statement said.

TNB also said that it had made advance preparations at the three dams since August last year to conduct controlled release of water to reduce water levels to accommodate an increase in water volume during the rainy season.

The company said that it had also conducted a series of briefings and emergency training at its hydroelectric stations and operations offices to enhance efficiency and readiness.

It advised members of the public to refer to TNB CareLine at 15454 or the TNB CareLine on Facebook for further information. - Star
