Two prisons in Terengganu will be placed under enhanced movement control orders (MCO) for two weeks beginning tomorrow (Jan 28).
They are the Dungun Correctional Centre as well as the Marang Prison's prisoner transit centre (PTP) and staff training centre in Zone 2 and 3. The enhanced MCO at the Dungun Correctional Centre will also cover the staff quarters.
Senior Minister (security) Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced this in a statement today. He said the decision to lock down the prisons was made today after a surge of Covid-19 cases there.
"As of yesterday, the Health Ministry conducted 1,102 tests at the Dungun Correctional Centre and 99 people were found positive for Covid-19, including 92 detainees, two staff, and five individuals who had close contact," he said.
As for the Marang Prison, he said 98 people were found positive for Covid-19 there.
The lockdown will last from Jan 28 to Feb 10. - Mkini
