Whole of peninsula now under MCO

Sarawak is now the only state in the country not under MCO.

KUALA LUMPUR: The whole of Peninsular Malaysia will go under a movement control order (MCO) with Kedah, Perak, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Terengganu and Perlis under MCO from Jan 22 until Feb 4, senior minister for security Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.

They join six other states and three federal territories which are already under MCO.

In a press conference, he said this follows a surge in Covid-19 cases in these states, which were previously under conditional MCO.

Sarawak is now the only state in the country not under MCO.

Except for Sibu, which is under MCO until Jan 29, the rest of Sarawak is under a conditional movement control order (CMCO) until Jan 31.

Ismail said Kedah recorded 4,411 cases over the last 14 days, with five of the 12 districts now red zones after recording more than 40 cases. They are Kuala Muda, Kota Setar, Kulim, Baling and Kubang Pasu.

Perak, meanwhile, has seen 4,481 cases over the past two weeks. In addition, eight of the 12 districts are now red zones. They are Kinta; Larut, Matang and Selama; Kerian; Hilir Perak; Manjung; Kuala Kangsar; Muallim and Batang Padang.

Ismail said there have been 10,115 cases in Negeri Sembilan over the last two weeks, with the health ministry stating that the daily average from Jan 5 to Jan 18 was more than 140 new daily cases with a high infection rate in the community.

The districts of Seremban and Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan were placed under a MCO effective today, with Ismail saying the two districts would be included in the current statewide MCO which would end on Feb 4.

Pahang, meanwhile, has recorded 2,287 positive cases over the last two weeks, with a total of 626 active cases currently in the state.

Terengganu has recorded 875 positive cases over the last two weeks with Perlis recording 114 cases over the same period. - FMT
