Who's calling the shots on SOP? Make up your mind - Hannah

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has slammed the inconsistency in decision making over a seemingly straightforward movement control order (MCO) SOP such as those governing public parks in Kuala Lumpur.

"On Jan 13, City Hall ordered all public parks closed, but on the same day, the KL MP asked for them to remain open.

"Then on Jan 14, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri says he can't entertain the request and public parks must be closed.

"Today (Jan 15), Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa says public parks can open."

Yeoh pointed out these announcements are made by two different ministers in the same cabinet and in the same Umno party.

"Please make SOP decisions based on science. Don't make SOP on your whims.

"We have experienced MCO since March 2020, so why is there still no improvement?" asked Yeoh, who said that the National Security Council needs to figure out the best policy and adjust accordingly.

Fellow DAP MP Teresa Kok, who represented Seputeh, also in Kuala Lumpur, was no less scathing in her assessment of the policies.

"When the government announced the MCO was going to be implemented on Jan 12, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said jogging of no more than two persons is allowed in public parks, but then Ismail made a U-Turn, announcing we can't do sports in the park and can only exercise near our own home.

"Today, Annuar said all public parks under Kuala Lumpur City Hall are allowed to operate and open to the public. What is this? The ministers in the cabinet are acting as if they don't talk to each other and can make contradictory announcements," she said.

She asked whose orders City Hall and residents in Kuala Lumpur should now follow.

"Ismail or Annuar? Is Annuar's directive going to be U-turned again or 'vetoed' by Ismail later?" - Mkini
