MALACCA POLLS | Pakatan Harapan chairperson Anwar Ibrahim has mooted a televised debate for each coalition's Malacca chief minister candidate.
This is after Communications and Multimedia Minister Annuar Musa indicated that all parties may be given airtime on national airwaves to campaign for the Malacca polls.
In a brief statement, Anwar welcomed Annuar's plans.
“I'm confident this suggestion is the best vehicle to catapult Malaysia's name as a country with a healthy and mature democracy,” he said.
Harapan's chief minister candidate is Amanah's Adly Zahari, who held the post from 2018 to 2020.
BN's candidate is incumbent chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali although there was some previous speculation that Malacca BN chief Ab Rauf Yusoh would be the candidate.
As for Perikatan Nasional, no announcements have been made but Bersatu vice-president Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen is believed to be a front runner. Another possible candidate who had been floated was Masjid Tanah MP Mas Ermieyati Samsudin.
The plans for a televised debate came amid strict restrictions on campaigning due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which ban gatherings, among others. - Mkini
