Covid-19 positive voter detected in Alor Gajah

The Malacca State Health Department has confirmed that a Covid-19 positive individual was found to have voted at a centre in Alor Gajah earlier today.

State health director Rusdi Abd Rahman said the Alor Gajah district health office had received a notification from the Melekek Covid-19 Assessment Centre.

"The voter's test result was received from a private laboratory after the individual had finished voting.

"The individual did not show any symptoms while voting," Rusdi said in a statement.

He said the Alor Gajah district health officer ordered swift action to instruct Election Commission personnel at the affected voting centre to temporarily close the risky areas, including the voting stream, for thorough disinfection with cooperation from the Fire and Rescue Department.

Rusdi said the EC also took action to open a voting stream in a new room with new equipment.

"A monitoring team from the Alor Gajah health clinic was also ordered on-site to ensure proper execution of the infection control process," he added.

Rusdi said all close and social contacts of the individual are also currently being investigated by the health department.

For further queries on the matter, Rusdi said the public can contact the Malacca Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre (CPRC) at 06-2345999 or through email at cprcmelaka@moh.gov.my. - Mkini
