'Don't be like women' - MCA accuses DAP candidate of sexism

MALACCA POLLS | MCA has accused DAP’s Kesidang candidate Allex Seah Shoo Chin of sexism after he asked the BN partner “not to be like women”.

Seah had taken issue with MCA campaign workers who had deliberately put BN flags on top of Harapan flags, blocking them.

“I hope our opponents, be it from BN or PN, be a bit more gentlemanly. Don’t be like women, doing things sneakily without people’s knowledge.

“Even women are more gentlemanly than you,” he was recorded on video as saying at the scene. The incident happened in Malim, Malacca.

(Saya harap pihak lawan, sama ada dari pihak BN atau dari PN, gentleman sikit. Jangan seperti wanita, takut nak buat benda yang kita tak tahu. Kalau untuk perempuan, dia lebih gentleman dari awak).

MCA Wanita chief Heng Seai Kie (above), responding to the incident, accused Seah of belittling women and urged him to apologise.

She also called for DAP women leaders to make a stand against Seah remarks.

“They should demand Seah to apologise for openly belittling women. As a woman, do they agree with what Seah had said?” she asked.

Heng then urged women in Kesidang to support BN candidate Leong Hui Ying in order to preserve the women's dignity.

PN's Patrick Ng Chin Kae is also contesting in the constituency.

'Men braver than women'

In an immediate response, Seah accused MCA of taking his comment out of context.

He claimed MCA only highlighted the first half of his sentence but not the remaining half.

“(MCA) removed the soundbite from their video. My subsequent words in the original context said ‘even women are more gentlemanly than you’,” he told Malaysiakini.

In defending his statement, Seah went on to say that it was generally accepted that men were braver than women.

“Therefore, what I meant was men are bolder than women but now, even women are bolder and more gentlemanly than you (MCA),” he said.

“We were reminding them that they are not even like women, you know? We did not in any way belittle women,” he said.

Seah is the incumbent in Kesidang. He is seeking a second term. - Mkini
