MALACCA POLLS | The victory obtained by BN in the Malacca election shows that the voters want political stability in the state and nationwide, according to MCA.
Its president Wee Ka Siong said the voters' actions through the ballot box was a clear message of "endorsement" for the coalition to push forward political stability.
"As what we stressed, stability brings prosperity. I am sure the people want to see stability in politics, which is also the motto we absorbed at the central level.
"We need political stability during the pandemic and we need a united government to bring us prosperity and develop the economy for the sake of the people," he told a press conference in Malacca today.
The transport minister added that under Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, he believes the party's relationship with the federal leadership can be continued.
"I pray for the best for the people. The aspect of the people's welfare is much more important than others," Wee said.
The Malacca state polls, which concluded yesterday, saw BN win 21 out of 28 state seats. MCA and MIC, which lost all seats in the 2018 general election, took two seats and one seat respectively.
Pakatan Harapan, meanwhile, only obtained five seats compared to the 13 it won in 2018 (five for DAP and one for Amanah). The other two seats were won by Bersatu.
Multiracial exco
Wee said the new state exco will no longer comprise executive councillors from one single ethnic group, but multiracial representatives.
"Past elections saw BN allies or (just) Umno. But this time we're impressed that MCA won in two constituencies and MIC also gained a seat.
"This portrays the spirit of BN which we upheld since before independence," he added. - Mkini
