KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government urges people to get their Covid-19 booster doses according to schedule.

State Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said by doing so it could enhance the body's immunity against the virus.

"As what has been reminded, the vaccine will not give 100 per cent protection from infections after full vaccination.

"However, it will spare us from severe complications due to Covid-19 infection," he said in a statement, reminding people to adhere to the standard operating procedures in public or during group meetings.

On Saturday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin advised those who had received Sinovac's CoronoVac vaccines to get booster doses as its effectiveness started to wane after a few months.

Sinovac recipients are eligible for the booster three months after the second dose, while Pfizer recipients are eligible for booster shots six months of their second jab.

So far, the state Health Department has administered 76,463 booster doses in Sabah.

Overall, 2,383,412 people including 304,510 teens have completed their vaccines.

Today, Sabah recorded 437 Covid-19 cases with one death each in Tawau and Beaufort.

A new cluster dubbed Sawit Mania in Kinabatangan was detected when a 59-year-old lorry driver tested positive during screening.

Further screening found 16 social contacts and workers who were also infected. - NST
