PETALING JAYA: Former federal minister Salleh Said Keruak hopes the Nov 20 Melaka polls will be a contest of policies and not personalities.
“Most importantly, please comply with all SOPs so that we can minimise risks related to Covid-19,” the former Sabah chief minister said in a Facebook post today.
Barisan Nasional, Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional all held press conferences yesterday to announce their candidates for the upcoming Melaka election.
The coalitions said they would contest all 28 state seats up for grabs.
Noting that the three coalitions have now officially announced their intentions to field candidates for all the seats, Salleh said “this shows that democracy is alive and well”.
Some medical experts have predicted a surge in new Covid-19 positive cases because of the state election, with “breakthrough cases” in which the majority would be those already vaccinated.
The health ministry has barred ceramahs and public gatherings to reduce crowding.
The Melaka state assembly was dissolved on Oct 5 after four assemblymen retracted their support for Sulaiman Md Ali as chief minister. - FMT
