Man beats up woman in lift over failure to find life partner

PETALING JAYA: A civil servant who failed to find a life partner on a website is alleged to have beaten up a woman in a lift of a building along Jalan 2, Chan Sow Lin, Cheras, yesterday.

Cheras district police chief Muhammad Idzam Jaafar said the man met the woman at an office and brought her into the lift before suddenly hitting her repeatedly on the head with his hands.

In a video captured by a closed-circuit TV camera, the man can later be seen dragging the woman by her hair out of the lift.

Idzam said police investigations showed the suspect had previously paid the woman RM2,500 in the hope of finding a match on the website.

The woman sought treatment for a cut on the head.

However, he said no matches had been found over the past six months.

Idzam said the woman had sought treatment at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (HCTM) after bleeding from a cut on the head.

“Police have already identified the man and will call him to give evidence.

“The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt,” he said. - FMT
