MELAKA: A Pakatan Harapan candidate in the Melaka state polls must apologise for making derogatory remarks about women, says Wanita MCA chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie.
"After I raised this issue and said he should apologise, he apparently did not and defended what he said earlier," she said on Wednesday (Nov 17) night about a comment by DAP's Alex Seah Shoo Chin.
Heng was speaking at an event with representatives from the women's wings of all Barisan Nasional parties to call for Seah to apologise for telling some campaign workers "don't be like women, doing things sneakily."
Heng said Seah should take responsibility for his words and added that the remark clearly shows that he has no respect for women.
"We need leaders who respect women and we should take note that women make up half of all voters in the state," added Heng.
Heng said that if Seah does not apologise, she calls on all women voters in Melaka to reject him, especially those in Kesidang.
In a Friday (Nov 12) live video on his Facebook, Seah was seen outside his service centre in Malim, where campaign workers were removing Barisan flags that were blocking Pakatan flags.
Seah had also reportedly dismissed Heng’s criticism and said he meant no disrespect to women in the video, which has gone viral on social media.
He also claimed the video did not carry all of his remarks. - Star
