MOF: Vellfire for ministers because lease is cheaper than Perdana

The Finance Ministry said the government decided to replace the Proton Perdana official vehicles for ministers with Toyota Vellfires because the monthly lease cost was cheaper.

“Following various discussions about the change in government official vehicles on social media, the Finance Ministry would like to inform that the decision to use Toyota Vellfire 2.5L as the official vehicle for ministers was made in order to replace the Proton Perdana 2.4 Premium, which production had ceased in 2014.

“Among the reasons for the decision include the monthly lease of the Toyota Vellfire 2.5L being lower than the lease cost of the Proton Perdana 2.4 Premium,” it said in a statement today.

According to the price provided by the Finance Ministry, the monthly lease of the Toyota Vellfire 2.5L is RM4,851.61 while the Proton Perdana 2.4 Premium’s lease was RM4,854.41 a month.

This translates to a saving of RM2.80 per vehicle per month.

The Finance Ministry said plans to replace the Proton Perdana had been made since the time of previous governments.

“But it was postponed and was only implemented this year,” it said.

Prior to the placement, the Finance Ministry said the existing Proton Perdana were already six years old.

It added that the replacement of ministerial vehicles was supposed to be done every four years.
