MELAKA TENGAH: Melaka Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen has given his assurance that the rights of non-Muslims will be respected should it form the next state government.
He said this when asked about the concerns of non-Muslims in Melaka over the PAS-led Kedah government’s ban on 4D outlets and curbs on alcohol sales in certain areas.
PAS has never been a part of any Melaka state government and a PN victory in Saturday’s polls could change this.
At a press conference, Rafiq, the PN Telok Mas candidate, said his Melaka PAS allies respected the rights of non-Muslims.
“In the context of Melaka, Bersatu will lead the state administration if PN forms the government,” he said.
“From my experience of working with PAS in Melaka, they are realistic and open and they respect the rights of Muslims and non-Muslims to practise any activities permitted by their respective religions.”
Rafiq said he did not foresee any problems should PN win, adding that it was a coalition that represented all races and religions.
He said any policy that a PN government planned to introduce in Melaka would take into account the interests of all races and religions.
Some Melakans have voiced concern that what has happened in Kedah could happen here should PN win on Saturday.
