PAS slams sabotage attempt by its member in Lendu

Imran Abdul Rahman (centre) said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang has declared that all party members must only vote for PN candidates.

MASJID TANAH: Masjid Tanah PAS chief Imran Abdul Rahman has condemned attempts to sabotage Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) election machinery in the Lendu state constituency.

This comes after a Masjid Tanah PAS member, claiming to be the division’s deputy chief, said in a video that he would be voting for Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate, former chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali.

The man, Mokhtar Razak Badri, also claimed that there had been conflicting messages from the PAS leadership on who to vote for and who the Islamist party should campaign for.

At a press conference today, Imran said there was a “mastermind” behind the video, adding that Mokhtar was just an ordinary member in the Masjid Tanah PAS division.

“The division does not even have a deputy chief, but just a vice-chief,” he added, suggesting that Mokhtar simply “appointed himself” to the non-existent post.

On the alleged conflicting messages from the leadership, Imran said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had already declared that all party members must only vote for PN candidates in the event of any clashes with BN.

“There is no confusion whatsoever on the matter. This has been understood by all PAS members.

“This individual with malicious intention, wanted to cause confusion and sabotage the PN election machinery in Lendu.

“Our enemies aren’t in PN. Our enemies are BN and Pakatan Harapan,” he said.

He added that the division would also be proposing that Mokhtar be sacked from the party.

The Lendu seat will see a three-cornered fight involving incumbent Sulaiman, who is BN’s chief minister candidate, PN’s Abdullah Mahadi and PH’s Mohamad Asri Ibrahim. - FMT
