PKR confident it can unseat incumbent CM in Lendu

MALACCA POLLS | PKR today claimed that they have a good chance to win the N04 Lendu seat in the Malacca state election and thus unseat incumbent chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali from Umno.

State PKR chief Halim Bachik told a press conference that the confidence was based on their recent on-the-ground assessment.

According to him, there has been a positive indication of PKR's chance at the traditional BN seat.

"Even though Lendu is the incumbent chief minister's seat, the voters there have been positive (towards PKR) when we went down to the ground.

"We received a lot of information that the people there liked our candidate and PKR, for that we have provided services to them including during the pandemic since last year.

"PKR (machinery) had visited many areas in Lendu, including those considered as hard for us. But we still went there, and the reaction was positive," he said.

The battle for the Lendu state seat is seeing a three-cornered fight between PKR's Asri Ibrahim, who contests under Pakatan Harapan banner, against Sulaiman and Perikatan Nasional's Abdullah Mahadi, who is a retired Army major.

Halim said Asri, 35, also has a good prospect as he is still young and used to serve as a rehabilitation officer in the National Anti-Drugs Agency.

The candidate, he added, was appointed as Harapan's coordinator for the Lendu constituency since last year when the coalition was toppled in a political coup.

"There is also the potential to win in Lendu because Sulaiman won in 2018 with a slim majority of 627."

During the press conference, Halim said PKR is confident that they can increase the number of seats to seven compared to three that PKR won in 2018, namely Machap Jaya, Rembia and Kelebang.

The other four they are aiming for are Lendu, Paya Rumput, Asahan and Rim. - Mkini
