IPOH: The membership list of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to investigate issues related to Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on Nov 26.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Idris Ahmad said that the list was finalised yesterday (Friday) and it would be presented to the King by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

"Yesterday, during the cabinet meeting, the list has been finalised and it will be presented to the King by the prime minister during his weekly meeting with Agong on Friday.

"Once Agong approves the list, only then we can make official announcement on who will be involved. There are seven people on the list," he said.

Idris told reporters this after attending state-level Program TH Prihatin 2021 at Menara TH here, today (Saturday).

Also present was TH group managing director and chief executive officer (CEO) Datuk Seri Amrin Awaluddin.

Asked whether the investigation would interrupt TH's operation, Idris said that it would not happen.

Meanwhile, Amrin stressed that any activities including business, haj pilgrimage and deposit matters would not be interrupted once the investigation begins.

"RCI will investigate matters pertaining to TH issue between 2014 and 2020 and it will be handled by the government, not TH," he said.

On July 14, the government announced the setting up of the RCI to investigate issues linked to TH audits conducted by independent auditors such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young and Roland Berger from 2014 to 2020.

The decision to form the RCI, under the Commission of Enquiry Act 1950, was agreed in cabinet to probe matters and take remedial steps to mend people's perception towards TH and ensure good governance.

The establishment of the RCI is appropriate so further investigations can be conducted on matters raised and action taken to improve the image as well as the people's confidence towards TH's credibility. - NST
