Tey resigns as Malacca DAP chief

MALACCA POLLS | Tey Kok Kiew has announced his resignation as Malacca DAP chief, saying he was taking full responsibility for the party's defeat in the Malacca election.

This came after DAP lost four state seats out of the eight it sought to defend.

At a press conference today, he also apologised for DAP's defeat in the state polls.

"Not only did we fail to form a new state government, but the eight seats we won in the 2018 general election has been reduced to four.

"This is my personal decision. I would like to apologise to DAP members, Pakatan Harapan allies and our supporters for failing to achieve our target.

"As the state party chief, I must be fully responsible for the result of the election. I hereby announce my resignation as state party chief with immediate effect," he said.

Tey, however, remains a DAP member.

DAP managed to capture only four of the seats it contested namely Kota LaksamanaKesidangBandar Hilir and Ayer Keroh.

Tey was among those who lost after he was defeated in a five-cornered race in Bemban.

The 49-year-old who held Bandar Hilir since the 2008 general election, moved to Bemban, which was won by his colleague Wong Fort Pin in 2018.  - Mkini
