A policeman has been identified as the suspect in a viral video of a woman being assaulted in an elevator in Kuala Lumpur.
Initial investigations revealed that the 35-year-old suspect had paid the victim RM2,500 to find him a suitable match on a matrimony website.
After six months of waiting, the suspect purportedly lost his temper and assaulted the 34-year-old woman in an elevator at the latter's office in Cheras on Nov 16.
According to Cheras district police chief Muhammad Idzam Jaafar, the victim sustained injuries to the head and was treated at the Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz UKM (HCTM).
He said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and the policeman's statement would be recorded to facilitate investigations.
If convicted, the suspect faces a prison term which could extend to one year, or a fine which might extend to RM2,000 or both.
Muhammad said those with information regarding the case can contact the Cheras district police headquarters at 013-2165881 or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03- 2146 0584 / 585
“The police wish to remind the public not to take matters into their own hands and to abide by the law. The public should not share videos which can cause concern among the public,” he added. - Mkini
