DUNGUN: A total of 8.6 million traffic summonses were settled during the discount period from Dec 9 until yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the discount was well-received by the public, considering that 12.2 million summons were settled throughout 2021.

“This showed that the public really took advantage of the discount to settle their outstanding summonses,” he told reporters after visiting the Kampung Jongok Batu on-site control post here today.

Asked if there were plans to extend the offer, Acryl said there would be no extension because the number of people paying their summonses at traffic payment counters nationwide had dropped by the end of last month.

The 80% discount period on traffic summonses was from Dec 9 to 12, but was later extended to Dec 31.

In other developments, he said the police force, as the chair of the disaster operations response committee, was satisfied with how the related agencies had handled the flood situation in accordance with the National Security Council Directive No 20, including at state level.

“Under the directive, the agencies applied the gotong-royong concept. At the contingent level, the state police chiefs met with these agencies to discuss and explain their roles.

“I am satisfied at this point with the feedback I received from the state police chiefs. Preparations have been made and we pray our plans will run smoothly,” he said.

The number of lives lost in the recent floods reached 50 today, while two more victims in Telemong and Bentong are still missing. - FMT
