Melalap assemblyperson Peter Anthony declined an invitation to join Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), stressing that he was committed to forming a new party.
"Thank you for your trust and invitation. However, we have decided to form a new party which will be our platform to contribute to Sabah's development.
"Details of this new party will be announced soon," he said, according to Sinar Harian.
Anthony said he hopes to see unity among Kadazan, Dusun, Murut and Rungus (KDMR) leaders soon in a coalition of Sabah-based parties. He believed that such a coalition will be successful, similar to the political arrangement in Sarawak.
"Our efforts are in the early stages to unite all KDMR leaders who have been split by political ideologies.
"We will continue to talk to seek a solution that unites us all," he said.
Anthony had resigned from Warisan on Dec 28 and pledged support for the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.
Warisan has been struck by five defections last year beginning with Hassan A Gani Pg Amir (Sebatik assemblyperson), followed by Yusof Yacob (Sindumin assemblyperson), Mohamaddin Ketapi (Lahad Datu MP, Segama assemblyperson) and Juil Nuatim (Limbahau assemblyperson).
Currently, Warisan is down to 17 assemblypersons in the Sabah legislative assembly.
Three days ago, Star president Jeffrey Kitingan urged Anthony not to form a new party because there were already too many in Sabah. - Mkini
