PETALING JAYA: Another man has died in custody – the 15th case this year – at the Kajang police station lock-up.

The 45-year-old died yesterday after he was “seen to be having seizures” by the staff on duty, Bukit Aman’s integrity and standards compliance department director Azri Ahmad said.

He died on the way to hospital.

Azri said the man had been charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and was kept at the Kajang station before being sent to the Satelit Beranang police station to be remanded.

He said the cause of death had not been determined yet.

He also said Bukit Aman would investigate the case.

Fourteen custodial deaths had been reported this year before the latest incident.

The last case was reported on March 21, when a 42-year-old detainee was found unconscious at the Indera Mahkota centralised lock-up in Pahang after being sentenced to eight months’ jail for a drug-related case.

Azri had said then that the man had been given medicine for tuberculosis about an hour earlier. He was taken to Hospital Kuantan where he was confirmed dead on arrival. -FMT
