Police are investigating another incident of custodial death, this time at the Indera Mahkota central lock-up in Kuantan, Pahang.
Bukit Aman's Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Azri Ahmad (above) said the deceased was serving an eight-month jail sentence under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and was to have attended a court mention on April 14.
"On April 9, at 4.40pm, the detainee was given tuberculosis medicine and at 5.47pm, he was found unconscious when personnel in charge was distributing food for the breaking of fast.
"At 6.35pm on the same day, Kuantan Hospital confirmed the detainee had passed away," he said.
Azri said his department's Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody will investigate the incident.
The detainee was originally held at the Penor Prison in Kuantan.
His sentence was under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administration of prohibited drugs while his latest court mention was under Section 12(2) of the same act for drug possession. - Mkini
