Fresh from her loss in the Johor election, state Wanita PKR chief Napsiah Khamis has declared her intention to contest the party’s deputy chief position of the women’s wing in the upcoming party polls.
Napsiah (above), who made her electoral debut for the Kempas state seat, said she believes that PKR and Harapan are ready to rebound from a “deficit of trust” in time for the 15th general election.
“It would not be a stretch to say there exists a deficit of trust towards PKR as reflected by the party’s performance in Sabah, Malacca, Sarawak, and most recently, Johor.
“Even though the party is perceived by certain quarters to be at a low point, I have faith that this phenomenon is just a temporary setback,” she said in a statement.
“I have full confidence that PKR and Harapan will be able to ‘bounce back’ and win the people’s hearts,” she added.
Alluding to the Sheraton Move that ended Harapan’s time in Putrajaya, Napsiah said the current government formed on the basis of treachery has failed to serve the people and placed the country in a state of prolonged instability.
She also said PKR must return to the party’s roots with a clear plan ultimately aimed at pushing the “idealisms of its struggle” for the people.
“With women making up close to 50 percent of the party's membership, I have full confidence that Wanita PKR requires a strong leadership line-up in touch with the pulse of the people, ready to lift the party to a higher level respected by both friends and foes.
"With my background of working with the people through NGOs and in politics since the start of the Reformasi era, I have full confidence that I can contribute and become an asset for the party," she said.
Last month, Senator Fadhlina Sidek became the first among Wanita PKR leaders to announce her candidacy for the wing’s chief position.
She is widely speculated to be going up against incumbent Wanita PKR chief Rodziah Ismail, who has yet to formally announce her candidacy. - Mkini
