Covid-19 (April 5): 12,017 new cases, 33 deaths

 


COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 12,017 new daily Covid-19 cases was reported yesterday,

Active cases currently stood at 171,173, down 31.2 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (7,448)
Kuala Lumpur (756)
Johor (560)
Penang (457)
Kedah (456)
Negeri Sembilan (440)
Sarawak (406)
Perak (377)
Pahang (252)
Terengganu (247)
Sabah (198)
Malacca (163)
Kelantan (155)
Putrajaya (38)
Perlis (33)
Labuan (31)


Another 33 deaths attributed to Covid-19 was reported yesterday, of which 10 was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 36.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 64.4, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,160 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There has been 177 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 2,235 deaths last month and 770 deaths in February.

Malaysia has the highest number of deaths per capita in the Asean and East Asian regions with 1,061 deaths per 1 million population, and the fourth-worst in Asia after Iran, Lebanon and Jordan – all in the Middle East.

The highest number of deaths was reported in Selangor (8) followed by Perak (6), Kedah (4), Sarawak (3), Johor (2), Kelantan (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Pahang (2), Perlis (2), Penang (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).

There are 3,423 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 234 are in intensive care.

The number of hospital beds needed for Covid-19 patients are on a consistent downtrend throughout the country.
