The proposed establishment of the Malaysian Centre for Journalism Studies in the country will benefit not only media practitioners but also Malaysians in general.
Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia (GKMM) pro-tem president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak said the proposal by Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is a good aspiration for the future of media practitioners.
During the officiation of the 2022 National Journalists Day (Hawana) main event in Malacca yesterday, the prime minister proposed the establishment of such a centre to uphold journalism standards and raise the level of journalistic professionalism in the country.
Mohamad Fauzi, who is also Johor Media Club president, said the 14 media clubs throughout the country have submitted their suggestion to establish GKMM to the prime minister.
On GKMM’s establishment, he said it would involve the 14 state media clubs, which were established on social and welfare platforms and brought together all journalists from various public and private media agencies.
Mohamad Fauzi said the GKMM work committee had been established after the Pemukiman Media Se-Malaysia programme in Langkawi, Kedah, from March 28 to 30 fine-tuned the GKMM draft constitution before its impending registration with the Registrar of Societies (ROS).
"May it become the best platform for media practitioners, especially journalists, throughout the country to share stories, aspirations and spread the spirit of brotherhood as well as organise activities,” he said.
The 14 clubs involved are Putrajaya Media Club; Melaka Media Practitioners Club (Pendika); Kedah Media Club (KMEK); Federation of Sarawak Journalists Association (FSJA); Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Media Club (KamiKLS), Johor Media Club (KMJ), Terengganu Media Journalists Club (Kawat); Negeri Sembilan Media Club (Manis); Pahang Media Club (KMP); Perlis Journalists Association (PWP); Perak Media Club; Sabah Media Club; Penang Media Club and Kelantan Media Club.
