We’re fully committed to unity govt, says BN

PETALING JAYA: The Barisan Nasional (BN) Supreme Council has given its unanimous backing to the unity government, denying claims that some of its MPs may be involved in a plot to oust Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

At the BN Supreme Council meeting last night, its secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir said the coalition was fully committed to the unity government and its goals.

He also called for all leaders to ensure political stability in the country.

In a statement on the coalition’s Facebook page, Zambry said the BN Supreme Council was also informed about preparations for the six upcoming state elections and cooperation with parties in the unity government.

The BN Supreme Council also agreed to Umno vice-president Johari Ghani’s appointment as BN treasurer-general, with the party’s two other vice-presidents – Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and higher education minister Khaled Nordin – also being appointed to represent Umno in the BN Supreme Council.

Earlier this week, news portal The Vibes claimed some BN MPs could possibly be involved with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in a scheme to oust Anwar.

The Vibes alleged that some BN MPs are currently being wooed by certain key individuals and persuaded to take part in a “do-or-die mission” to quit their party and sacrifice their seats – in order to trigger by-elections. - FMT
