PETALING JAYA: A 12-year-old boy died after being attacked by a crocodile at Pulau Sumangat Payau, Sandakan, in Sabah today.
Sandakan fire and rescue department operations commander Chauslim Sunsubin said personnel were dispatched to the scene as soon as they were alerted about the incident this morning.
A search-and-rescue operation was launched.
“The victim’s remains were found by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) at 10.38am, about 2km from the reported location of the incident.
“The remains were later handed over to the police,” he said.
Crocodile sightings are not a new thing around the beaches of Sabah.
Last December, the Sabah wildlife department had received almost 30 reports of crocodile sightings, with at least six of them in Kota Kinabalu.
In December, a crocodile had attacked a man and his one-year-old toddler while they were on a sampan in Lahad Datu, killing the child and leaving the man with severe injuries. - FMT
