A total of RM50 million has been allocated to reduce electricity bills at government buildings through the use of solar energy.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli and Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad made the joint announcement at a press conference this afternoon.
"RM50 million will be allocated to upgrade and modify government buildings within this year,” said Rafizi.
“This is the government’s long-term investment to reduce electricity bills at government buildings,” said Rafizi.
The Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry will be in charge of this policy.
Rafizi added that the renewable energy capacity in the electricity supply system is anticipated to reach approximately 70 percent by 2050.
He then said that Malaysia can be a renewable energy hub in Asean because of its potential in terms of capacity and geography.
“Lead the way and position Malaysia as the clean energy hub in this region. Malaysia is right in the middle of the map,” said Rafizi.
The ministers estimated new investments of around RM637 billion until 2050 in an effort to increase renewable energy capacity in the electricity supply system. - Mkini
