Sanusi hits out at ‘extreme decisions’ by Putrajaya

PETALING JAYA: Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor has criticised the federal government for what he calls “extreme decisions” in providing approval for the expansion of the Penang International Airport and making a slew of political appointments to government bodies.

Sanusi accused Putrajaya of pandering to the “extreme politics” of Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional in Penang by approving the airport there instead of an airport in Kulim proposed by the Kedah government.

He said the Kedah Aerotropolis project was more viable as it would be privately funded and would not involve the demolition of buildings.

“In Bayan Lepas (where Penang airport is located), the area is crowded and traffic is congested, but because of the ‘extreme politics’ of PH and BN, they announced the project,” said Sanusi at a PAS event in Selangor.

Sanusi is the PAS national election director.

He claimed the government was only interested in winning votes in Penang by approving the airport expansion.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Feb 24 that Penang airport would be improved and expanded, at a cost of RM1.2 billion, to attract more investors, traders, and tourists.

Sanusi also said the government was being “extreme” in its political appointments.

The government has come under fire from the opposition and civil society groups over the appointment of politicians to head government agencies and bodies.

In the past, PH, which Anwar heads, had spoken against political appointments. - FMT
