Rosmah files last minute representations over money laundering, tax evasion charges

Rosmah Mansor is facing 12 money laundering charges involving RM7,097,750 and five counts of failure to declare her income to the Inland Revenue Board.

KUALA LUMPUR: With her trial scheduled to begin on Friday, Rosmah Mansor has filed representations to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) over her money laundering and tax evasion charges.

Her lawyer Geethan Ram Vincent said the representations were submitted on May 2.

“I can confirm representations were made, but have yet to get a reply on the outcome,” he told FMT when contacted.

A 15-day trial is scheduled to begin before High Court Judge K Muniandy on May 12.

A deputy public prosecutor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it is unclear whether the trial will begin as previously scheduled.

“We are also awaiting instructions from the public prosecutor,” he said.

Representations are usually made to the AGC seeking the withdrawal or reduction of charges preferred against an accused.

On March 23, the prosecution told Muniandy it intends to call 13 witnesses to testify against Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak.

She was charged with the offences in a sessions court here on Oct 4, 2018 before the matter was transferred to the High Court.
