Two individuals arrested over fight that started in school

A conflict that occurred in a school in Johor was thought to have been resolved, but now, two more individuals have been arrested for their involvement in a subsequent related fight.

Johor police chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the two arrested were believed to have been involved in the fight in Tampoi, which went viral on social media in a 28-second video recording.

“Actually, the fighting case that started among school students was resolved when the police met with the families of both parties, but what became an issue now is when outsiders intervened.

“So, our advice is for all parties to not interfere with the police investigation and not make any statements or take actions that could further inflame the situation.

“The Johor police will take strict action against anyone found to be involved in breaking any laws of the country,” he said, as reported by Kosmo today.

The school incident is believed to have started after one party threw an eraser at the other individual, leading to a fight among them.

The situation allegedly worsened when one of the parties involved people from outside the school, causing several individuals to be injured, including at the head.

The latest arrests saw eight individuals taken into custody in relation to this incident so far, involving suspects aged between 18 and 35 years old.

The case is being investigated under Sections 148 (possession of weapons or missiles at riots), 365 (kidnapping), and 385 (putting a person in fear of injury to commit extortion) of the Penal Code.

Yesterday, North Johor Bahru police district chief Balveer Singh Mahindar Singh reportedly said six suspects, including a woman, had been arrested in connection with the fight.

The investigation found that the incident happened around 11.40pm on May 27 in Tampoi.

All detained suspects have been remanded for four days starting yesterday until Wednesday.

In the 28-second video, several individuals can be seen beating up a man lying on the road by punching and kicking him, with some even using a helmet. - Mkini
