I have solid proof, says MP challenging MyEG’s denial on illegal fee collection

In July, MyEG said it had received a notification letter from the finance ministry, which agreed to an extension of the company’s contract to process foreign worker permits. (Facebook pic)

KUALA LUMPUR: Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) has doubled down on allegations that MyEG Services Bhd collected fees illegally for its foreign worker permit renewal services.

Khoo said after he raised the matter in the Dewan Rakyat two days ago, more employers called him to say that they too faced the same issue with the company.

“The employers said, until today, they have yet to be reimbursed the money they paid,” he told a press conference at the Parliament building, adding that he had solid evidence to back his claims.

He urged the government to look into the matter, saying MyEG’s actions were “unacceptable”.

On Tuesday, Khoo claimed that MyEG still accepted payments for foreign worker permit renewals even after the company’s contract to provide such a service had been suspended by the immigration department in February.

He cited an example where a factory with 10 workers made an online payment of RM2,000 per person, or a total of RM20,000, to MyEG.

In response, MyEG yesterday refuted Khoo’s claims and said that there had been no misrepresentation by itself regarding the services offered on its online platform.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the group also reconfirmed that all its services are consistently provided in accordance with the terms and conditions stipulated by the Malaysian government.

In July, MyEG said it had received a notification letter from the finance ministry, which agreed to an extension of the company’s contract on processing foreign worker permits.

MyEG said the terms of the extension would be finalised pursuant to further discussion with the government in due course and that an agreement will be signed at a later stage.

However, MyEG did not disclose whether those who submitted their payments would face delays in getting the work permits issued by the immigration department.

Meanwhile, Khoo also stressed that he had written evidence, including emails and text messages, to back his claims on MyEG’s actions.

He said the matter must be taken seriously, as it could impede the government’s efforts to fully digitise the public sector. - FMT
