Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is said to be preparing a major reshuffle of his cabinet, amid speculation that such a reshuffle is imminent.
According to a source close to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Anwar’s plans would also entail changing the secretaries-general of several ministries.
“With the conclusion of the six state elections, the government remains stable despite the propaganda touted by Perikatan Nasional. This includes the continued support from Sabah and Sarawak.
“The prime minister is now focusing on ensuring that the government effectively implements key policies such as the 12th Malaysia Plan, the Budget 2024 in October, energy policies, and the cost of living.
“Hence, Anwar will undertake a reshuffle of the cabinet, secretaries-general, members of the bureaucracy, civil servants, and even his own office,” the source told Malaysiakini.
Previously, a news portal published a speculative piece about a cabinet reshuffle to replace underperforming ministers.
The report also claimed that the reshuffle would involve secretaries-general and directors-general in several ministries.
Meanwhile, the source said Anwar’s reshuffle is also aimed at streamlining and improving government communications.
“For instance, the communications machinery is seen as lagging behind PN. The reshuffle process is still being organised and will be implemented soon,” the source said. - Mkini
