Mydin puffs humour on 'MP vaping' charge with 'unsmokable pens'

A popular retail chain store has added a dollop of sarcastic humour to the allegation of an opposition lawmaker vaping in the Dewan Rakyat.

In a post on X this afternoon, Mydin published a photograph of the ballpoint pens on sale in its stores.

The caption read: “For pen aficionados. The pens in Mydin are not suitable for smoking.”

The tongue-in-cheek post has garnered close to 200,000 views and more than 3,600 likes.

The MP at the centre of the ‘smokestorm’, Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, however, is mulling suing Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s photographer over the image that led to the accusation.

Ikmal has since claimed that it was not a vaping device but a pen in his mouth.

The Tanah Merah MP also claimed that he was not a smoker and was someone who could not tolerate the smell of cigarette smoke.

Meanwhile, Sinar Harian said Ikmal’s aide would lodge a police report over the accusation at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters before proceeding with legal action.

It has also been reported that Parliament is probing the matter to determine if the MP was vaping in the august house.

This is not the first time a federal lawmaker has courted trouble over vape devices.

In 2020, Umno MP Hishammuddin Hussein was slapped with a fine for vaping in the Dewan Rakyat. - Mkini
