No boycott, MCA targets at least 70pct turnout in Pulai, Wee says

JOHOR BY-ELECTIONS | MCA’s campaign machinery will work with BN and Pakatan Harapan to achieve a minimum of 70 percent voter turnout in the upcoming Sept 9 by-elections, said party president Wee Ka Siong.

Speaking to reporters at the Pulai MCA office, he also assured there will be no boycott of Harapan candidate Suhaizan Kaiat by MCA members.

“We’re here today, in fact since last week. There’s no boycott.

“There was a briefing for our machinery today. They told me where are the focus areas,” he said.

Wee (above, third left) stressed that Johor MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon, who is also the Yong Peng assemblyperson, has been on the ground to lead MCA’s machinery on the campaign trail for Suhaizan.

“I don’t know where the boycott rumours came from. People can say what they want.

“On our part, there is no boycott, and those claiming so maybe they are not right in the head,” he said.

Wee also said MCA’s support for Harapan and Suhaizan (above, second right) was in the name of stability as part of the federal government.

The Ayer Hitam MP, together with Ling and MCA Wanita chief Wong You Fong, earlier attended a briefing with party machinery, where Suhaizan was introduced to their members.

In his introduction, Wee revealed that he shared a similarity with Suhaizan, both being alumni of UTM Skudai.

Suhaizan and Harapan leaders on the campaign trail have urged voters to come out and cast their ballots for a convincing win against Perikatan Nasional’s Zulkifli Jaafar and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohd Fauzi.

Wee’s presence in Pulai rounded out the attendance of top BN leaders backing its new allies from Harapan, after previous events with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as well as MIC leaders. - Mkini
