YOURSAY | In Pulai and Simpang Jeram, Bangsa Johor has won

YOURSAY | ‘Unity govt best combination to rule country for the foreseeable future.’

Win shows Johoreans ‘reject politics of hate’ - new Pulai MP

Gerard Lourdesamy: Congratulations to Pakatan Harapan and BN on a well-deserved victory despite the lower voter turnout that should have favoured Perikatan Nasional. The Johor voters have soundly defeated the racism and religious fanaticism of PN.

The voters have opted for stability, progress, and pragmatism. Bangsa Johor has won. The Johor palace has been vindicated by its wisdom in this victory. The Malay voters have shown that they are a strong wall to halt the Green Wave that has threatened the unity and harmony of the people since 2020.

The unity government should proceed with its plans, policies, and programmes for the country until the next general election in 2027. Harapan and BN must become cohesive and strong together with their allies in Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

A unity government is the best combination to rule this country for the foreseeable future. The extremism of PN has no place in our multiracial, multireligious, and multicultural country.

Mazhilamani: Congratulation is rightly due to former prime ministers Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin (also Bersatu chairperson), and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for driving the intelligent and responsible voters towards Harapan and BN.

It is a grand victory for Bangsa Johor, thanks to His Highness the Johor sultan, and the tireless party workers. The results come as a relief.

You will now have many analysts from the PN side with views on how and why PN lost the two by-elections. It no longer matters. As for Mahathir, it is a loss of face in Langkawi and now in Simpang Jeram and Pulai. Muhyiddin’s turn is next.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim can now concentrate on the cases against the three defenders of race and religion, along with former Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin and Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Be sure to reach conclusions to the cases against the five agitators within the next year while focusing on the escalating food prices. Congrats Mr. PM and your team.

Man on the Silver Mountain: The people have spoken. We have been waiting to hear it since Monday. I feel like gloating over it but due to respect for PN supporters and Harapan haters here, well, try harder next time.

Win or lose is normal, but it is better minus the hate. Respect your fellow human beings even if they are different from you. The politics of 3R (race, religion, and royalty) is toxic, corruption is abhorrent, the reason why right-thinking people avoid you.

Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, and Perlis, are more practical. Things that deprive you of progress should be kept aside and allow mainstream government to develop you. Syabas to the unity government. Pulai and Simpang Jeram endorse you.

RedBisson1986: I congratulate Harapan for its landslide victory in both parliamentary and state by-elections.

The reason why Harapan won by landslide in both Pulai and Simpang Jeram is that (1) Muhyiddin broke ethics by issuing a “haram” edict, and (2) Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim openly supported Anwar by calling Muslims to give the Madani administration more time.

In Johor, only the state religious department, which is headed by the powerful Sultan Ibrahim (who has veto power) can issue a haram edict and Bangsa Johor certainly does not like anyone to go against their beloved sultan.

So, Muhyiddin, you are out and come the 16th general election, you may be sent into retirement.

NoobMaster69: Reformati (dying reforms)? Not quite yet! Let those who are chosen to be opposition be a good opposition and stop having ill thoughts about another Sheraton Move (coup which ended Harapan rule in 2018).

For the government, time to keep your head down. More work to do. Expectations are higher now especially since a lot of voters looked the other way regarding the recent court situation.

If PN also wins, nothing for the folks on the street. This is an election to choose someone who can provide the best service to the people of Pulai as a whole.

If the good people of Pulai now have problems, they can always approach the MP. It will be easier if he is aligned with the government.

My2Cents: Congrats to the people of Pulai and Simpang Jeram, you have voted wisely for two representatives who will work for you. All the hard work by the leaders and party workers, volunteers, and supporters, from Harapan, Umno, and MIC, has paid off.

There will be more facts and figures shared in the next few days, with analysis of how each race voted, according to age, and inference of what it means for Harapan.

For now, Harapan, Umno, and the Borneo alliance will likely stay on until full term, unless the cost of living gets out of hand badly.

PN head honchos should behave themselves and do their work to keep the government in check and assist their constituents. Stop all the rhetoric and do not sow discord.

Mano: “However, PN’s vote share also increased to 42.19 percent up from 29.72 percent in 2022. This suggests that those who voted for BN in 2022 have split their votes between Harapan and PN.”

Points to investigate during a mandatory postmortem. It is said that “Feedback is the breakfast of champions”.

So, Harapan, do not gloat over the victory and be complacent. We have not forgotten the many things which have gone wrong lately.

The non-Malays had no other choice and just voted for Harapan because the racism, and religious extremism of PN were not our choice at all. What this means is that Harapan must admit the big elephants in the room.

For example, talking about combating corruption but doing things to the contrary is not endearing us.

Salvage Malaysia: Well done Harapan-BN, credit is given when it’s deserved but don’t be complacent as PN’s vote percentage increased considerably too.

The Madani government needs to do better in governing the country otherwise things may change in GE16. Please do not take things for granted. - Mkini
