PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has identified about 10 people responsible for falsely disseminating the message that diesel subsidies will be abolished from Jan 1.
Communications minister Fahmi Fadzil said information on those identified would be handed over to the police for investigation and further action.
“MCMC has identified eight to 10 propagators, and we will hand the information over to the police for further investigation. A police report on the matter has been lodged,” he said in a media conference here today.
Earlier, several posts were uploaded on social media claiming that diesel subsidies would be abolished from Jan 1.
This was denied by the domestic trade and cost of living ministry yesterday.
The ministry said it was in fact implementing a pilot project to look at the effectiveness of a fleet card system.
Meanwhile, Fahmi called on the public to report all false messages and content on social media to 016-220 6262 for appropriate action to be taken. - FMT
