Police are in the process of obtaining information over the allegation that the boss of a drug kingpin in Tamil Nadu is a Malaysian.
Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said local police have no information regarding this issue at the moment.
He added that a check revealed there is no information on the suspect detained in India in the Federal Anti-Narcotics Department’s drug distribution database.
“As for now, the anti-narcotics department does not have any bilateral ties with India’s Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and all communication is done through the Interpol and the US Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA),” he was reported as stating.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that a senior Indian investigative journalist claimed that the alleged Malaysian boss of a drug kingpin in India is a film distributor.
A Shankar raised this when commenting on the NCB arresting a politician and Tamil film producer, Jaffer Sadiq.
The Indian national is accused of being linked to a RM1.13 billion drug bust. The NCB claimed the syndicate has links in Malaysia, New Zealand, and Australia.
“Since they (NCB) mentioned Malaysia, let me give you a clue. Jaffer’s boss is in Malaysia. He is very influential in the Indian cinema industry. He is the one who controls Jaffer.
“This Malaysian has close ties with numerous celebrities in the Tamil film industry. If he is arrested, many players in the Tamil film industry will be implicated,” Shankar said.
Jaffer has been accused of spearheading a network that sourced pseudoephedrine in India and trafficked it to Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia in the guise of food-grade cargo.
“It is believed the drug syndicate operated by him has sent 45 consignments over the past three years to various countries, containing approximately 3,500kg of pseudoephedrine," the NCB said. - Mkini
