Johor Umno Youth leader to be charged with sexual assault on teens

A Johor Umno Youth leader is expected to be charged in court tomorrow over allegations of sexual assault against several teenage boys.

At least six boys are said to be the victims in the case.

It was initially reported yesterday that the suspect had been arrested on Monday after police reports were lodged accusing him of sexually assaulting one boy.

Police later said there were two victims, both around the age of 15.

However, four more teenagers have come forward to lodge a police report claiming the politician had sodomised them.

Bukit Aman Sexual, Women and Child Investigation Division (D11) chief Siti Kamsiah Hassan confirmed this to Malaysiakini when contacted today.

"So far, police have received a total of five cases (against the suspect)," she said in a text message.

It is believed that one of the cases involved two siblings, who lodged a report together yesterday after being prompted by their father.

It was learned that authorities plan to charge the suspect in one of the cases tomorrow.

Investigation papers

Mersing district police chief Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said they expect to forward investigation papers to the prosecution office later today.

He, however, declined to reveal further information.

"Please wait for our press statement, expected to be issued later this evening after we submit investigation papers to the prosecutor's office," he added.

Malaysiakini has established that the suspect is an Umno Youth leader in one of the party's Johor divisions. His identity is being withheld as he has yet to be charged in court.

According to a copy of a police report that had gone viral on social media, the suspect was active in volunteerism and NGO programmes.

He was said to have frequently brought the teenagers along to join the activities.

‘Let authorities do their work’

Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros told Malaysiakini the party's wing is following the case closely and will leave it to the authorities to exercise the necessary actions.

On the suspect’s membership status, Azleen said he will have to refer to the party's constitution and national leadership on the next measure that will be taken against the leader.

"As of now I will let the authorities do their work and let the law and the process take its course," he added. - Mkini
