The cumulative cases of hot weather-related illnesses rose to 88 as of yesterday from 84 cases on May 19, said the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma).
The agency announced the breakdown of the cases according to diagnoses in a statement today, stating there were 65 cases of heat exhaustion, heat stroke (19), and heat cramps (four).
“No new fatalities were reported this week. Fatal cases of heat stroke remains at three - a 22-year-old man in Pahang on Feb 2, a three-year-old boy in Kelantan on April 1, and a 25-year-old man in Negeri Sembilan on April 22.
“There is a case of heat stroke being treated in the intensive care unit and one still being treated in a normal ward, while another case has recovered following treatment,” the agency said.
Nadma also said that as of May 27, the Kuala Krai district in Kelantan has registered Level Two hot weather (heat wave) with daily maximum temperatures exceeding 37C to 40C for at least three consecutive days.
On May 25, three districts in Peninsular Malaysia and two districts in Sabah recorded Level One hot weather (caution) with a maximum daily temperature of 35C to 37C for at least two consecutive days.
