Johor Umno, PKR leaders downplay claim PH able to form next state govt

PETALING JAYA: 

Two unity government party leaders have sought to downplay a claim by a PKR division secretary that Pakatan Harapan would be able to wrest Johor from its current ally, Umno.

Johor PKR chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said Muhamad Hanis’s remarks were his personal views, while Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said his party should not be 

bothered by the noise coming from PKR

.

Syed Ibrahim said Johor PKR had not discussed replacing Barisan Nasional, led by Umno.

The relationship at the state level is similar to the ties at the federal level,

 he told FMT.

He also said Muhamad’s comments were 

part and parcel

 of politics, and that BN component parties had made similar statements in the past.

For me, it’s normal. But we need to manage such things at the federal level,

 he said.

He said that while the party would not gag its members, there is also a need for political stability at the state level.

It was reported yesterday that Muhamad said PH was confident of wresting Johor from Umno and BN if a state election was held any time soon.

The PKR Sri Gading secretary said the confidence stemmed from an analysis of the 15th general election results as well as 

records and data

.

Hence, Johor Umno should practise some self reflection and not puff their chest following their win in the last election,

 he said.

Muhamad was responding to Johor Umno chief Onn Hafiz Ghazi, who said Umno must take the initiative to wrest the Sri Gading parliamentary seat, won by PH in the last general election.

Meanwhile, Azleen said he was confident that when the time comes, voters 

would be wise enough to decide which party they want to elect to represent their interests

.

He said the public placed more importance on how the government at both federal and state levels were working to improve their livelihoods during these difficult times.

Enough with the politicking. It’s time to focus on work. The election is not happening any time soon,
