PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak has expressed his gratitude to Umno for supporting his bid to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest.
In a Facebook post, Najib’s son, Nazifuddin, said he informed his father of the collective efforts made by various parties to rally support for him, including a mass gathering outside the Palace of Justice on Jan 6.
He said the efforts also included the supply of buses and cars for his supporters to attend the rally, and their unwavering moral support.
“I have updated my father on the sincere efforts from everyone involved. He is deeply touched and extends his heartfelt appreciation to each and every one of you.
“This dedication reflects our strength as a party and our loyalty to our cause. God willing, with prayers and our collective effort, we will succeed.”
It was reported that more than 200 busloads of Najib’s supporters are expected at the rally.
PAS, MCA and MIC members are also expected to be present.
The rally coincides with the Court of Appeal’s hearing of Najib’s application for leave to adduce fresh evidence in his appeal to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest, an order he claims was issued in a supplementary decree to the Feb 2 Federal Territories Pardons Board’s announcement.
Najib is currently serving a six-year prison sentence, halved by the pardons board from the initial 12 years, following his conviction in the SRC International case. - FMT
