PAS Youth to stage protest over attempts to 'hide' Najib addendum

PAS Youth is planning to stage a mega rally in relation to the royal addendum granting Najib Abdul Razak house arrest.

This is over allegations that some in the government tried to hide the addendum - which was proven to be true in court today.

"PAS Youth will be organising a mega youth demonstration to show a clear signal that the people, especially the youth, will not compromise on any form of treachery towards the royal institution or the people's trust," said wing chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamuddin.

"Those involved in this treachery must be brought to justice immediately," he added.

Earlier today, a letter from the Pahang palace affirming that the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, had issued a royal addendum granting Najib house arrest was submitted to the Court of Appeal.

Najib's lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah told the court that Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and five other respondents did not answer the former premier's letters on whether the alleged royal addendum exists.

This led them to seek legal recourse through the courts.

The government's lawyers in turn argued that the addendum was not discussed when the Pardons Board convened to discuss Najib's pardon application on Jan 29 last year.

Najib wins appeal

In a split 2-1 decision, the three-person appellate bench chaired by judge Azizah Nawawi allowed Najib's appeal for leave to commence judicial review at the High Court to compel the home minister and the government to enforce the alleged decree by the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

The majority ruling found that the home minister, the government and several other respondents did not challenge the existence or the authenticity of the royal addendum.

Afnan further said that besides a rally, PAS Youth will also be lodging police reports over the matter.

"Stern legal action must be taken immediately to ensure the government's integrity does not stay sullied, and for those responsible to be punished," he said.

Meanwhile, Bersatu Youth also expressed its readiness to cooperate with all political parties' youth wings to ensure that the "treachery" would be investigated immediately in order to defend the sovereignty of the royal institution. - Mkini
