BANGI: Students who do not have Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia qualifications can now pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes through classroom-based assessment.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said more than 10,000 students did not sit SPM in 2023 and the previous year.

He said this initiative offered students who lacked SPM qualifications a second chance to pursue TVET courses.

"We hope to establish a collaborative effort between the National TVET Council and the Education Ministry to identify these students.

"They can apply for TVET courses that suit their interests through the TVET Admission Unit (UPTVET)," he said after officiating at the launch of Kuali Cafe in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia campus here today.

Zahid also said the government was streamlining TVET institutions to provide more options for students.

"There are 1,398 TVET institutions across the country. Streamlining these institutions will provide students with a wider range of course and institution options." - NST
