PETALING JAYA
A total of 1,300 eligible couples will benefit from the government’s initiative to fund free intrauterine insemination (IUI) fertility treatments, women, family and community development minister Nancy Shukri said today.

She said the government had allocated RM6 million for two cycles of free fertility treatments, as well as an infertility advocacy campaign, via Budget 2025.

“The government hopes that the fertility treatment assistance and subsidies provided through the programme will help more couples realise their dreams of starting a family,” she said.

According to a statement from her ministry, she announced this at the launch of the Fertility Treatment Assistance and Infertility Advocacy (BuAI) programme with the National Population and Family Development Board in Penang today.

Nancy said the programme would benefit couples with household incomes of less than RM10,000 a month who had yet to receive any financial assistance from any agency for IUI treatment.

She said the first pregnancy under the BuAI programme was recorded on Feb 18.

Nancy said the average cost of IUI treatments at private infertility centres ranges from RM2,000 to RM3,000 per cycle. - FMT
