Influencers admit to faking friend's disappearance in Bandung forest for TikTok views

A report by a local news portal in Indonesia revealed a deception by influencers who claimed that their friend went missing during a shoot in the forest in Bandung.

BANDUNG: Two influencers from Malaysia were alleged to have fabricated the story of their friend's disappearance in a forest while creating social media content in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia.

According to a report by local news portal KumparanNews, police investigations found that the claim of the disappearance was a false story.

Panyileukan police chief, Commissioner Kurnia, said the influencers admitted to the police that they had conducted a live broadcast at Bukit Embah Garut RT 05, RW 09, Kelurahan Cisurupan, Kecamatan Cibiru, Kota Bandung, on TikTok last Sunday with the sensational story 'Malaysian Influencer (girl) Missing for 48 Hours While Making Paranormal Activity Content.'

"The sensational content was created solely to increase the number of views and followers.

"They were unaware that Indonesian law imposes strict penalties on those who spread false news.

"The content they created also did not receive approval from the authorities, even though it had been approved by the local area manager," he was quoted as saying by the portal.

Kurnia said the influencers have apologised to the police and made a written statement and a video confession promising not to repeat the act. - NST
