A CCTV footage of a man attempting to sexually assault a child at a mosque has gone viral this morning.
A committee member of Sungai Masin Mosque in Batang Kali, Hulu Selangor confirmed the incident which happened during the Subuh prayers.
“Yes, the incident occurred during Subuh prayers today. The perpetrator has been apprehended.
“I cannot say anything further. Please refer to the police for details,” said the committee member who requested anonymity.
Earlier, a video clip went viral on social media showing a man clad in a yellow T-shirt and skullcap sneaking into the women’s prayer hall before carrying away the girl by grabbing her from the back.
Based on the CCTV footage, the man found the girl praying alone at the back of the congregation, leaving others unaware of what had happened.
The suspect then tried to sexually assault the child but fled after she fought back.
Be on high alert
The police confirmed receiving a report on the matter and will issue a statement soon.
Selangor Islamic Affairs, Halal Industry, Digital Infrastructure & Acculturation of Science, Technology and Innovation committee chairperson Fahmi Ngah urged those praying in mosques to be on high alert and lodge a police report if such incidents reoccur.
“As for this case, I have spoken to the Selangor police chief to act based on existing laws if the news is true.
“Any attempts to create a perception that a mosque is an unsafe place cannot be accepted by Muslims in Selangor,” he stressed. - Mkini
